olivermossDiscovery is going to get a gender non-binary person and a trans man in the upcoming season. Here is the variety article on it.
The trans man is going to be a Trill. Some Trill are hosts to symbionts that will likely outlive them. Trill symbionts can expect to be in many bodies over their life. DS-9 used Trill as a way to explore gender and sexuality, like when Captain Sisko's old friend shows up in a female body. YouTuber Matt Baume did an episode on a Trill storyline with a lesbian kiss. Does anyone know of a good video essay on Sisko processing that his old friend is a woman? I only watched the first season, but I remember him dealing with having very different reactions to Jadzia than he did to Kyrzon.
