Boku Ga Watashi Ni Naru Tame Ni
Aug. 22nd, 2022 07:08 pmBoku Ga Watashi Ni Naru Tame Ni (In Order for Me To Be Me) is a one-volume autobiographical essay manga by a trans woman author.
The manga is primarily about her experience with having SRS in Thailand, but she also discusses her initial experience with psychologists and coming out and with legally changing her gender afterward. She has a funny and very honest storytelling style (at one point she uses a tofu and sausage metaphor to explain how her surgery works, which cracked me up), and her art is cute. I also found it interesting to read about how the (mostly legal) procedures of transition work in Japan.
Unfortunately, it's not yet licensed in English, but if you can't read it in Japanese, there's a full fan translation available. If you are able to read German, it has been officially translated and released as Yunas Reise zum Ich.
