The Last of Us 2

olivermossThis is a bit of a odd one as I normally don't post about media I haven't watched/played. But due to a massive response to the TV adaption, The Last of Us is having a big moment right now. So, I wanted to post about the second game having a transmasc character. The show has been renewed for season 2, which may get into the plot of the second game.
Part of why I don't typically post about media I don't have first hand knowledge of is for a few reasons. 1) I can never trust fan reactions, recommendations or even professional reviews to reliably tell me if there are trans characters, and if they are, whether they are NB, FTM, MTF, born intersex, etc. 2) I like to give some information about whether the representation is good. Obviously, you may disagree with me about what is good rep, but I focus on trying to give key facts so people can judge for themselves. Since I post a lot of these over time you can get a sense of whether you think my takes are good. Also, since I typically know the media I can also just answer questions if people have them.
So, here's the thing: 100% of why I know there is a transmasc character in TLOU2 is because I saw people very upset over the character as 'trauma porn' and woobification. However, I don't know if this is accurate at all... some fans reactions I see on social media can be way off. So, that needs to be taken with several spoonfulls of salt. I am not, however, sure whether transmasc is the best term to describe Lev, because again anything but the primary source tends to be unreliable. It's just the term I see used.

If I watch something and think the rep I terrible, I don't post. There is a reason I've never posted about Lovecraft Country.
Anyway, so that was a LOT of words to say that there is a major character who is trans in the second game, I honestly don't know if the rep is good or not... but the TV show is The Big Thing right now and we may see Lev in an upcoming season. The big thing having canonical trans rep is something I'd like to know, so, just passing it along. Has anyone played the games? Can you give us a better handle on how they did?
