New or Upcoming Canons

When I made this comm I was aware of a few current or upcoming canons with canon trans content. Right now, I don't know of many! I knew there was going to be in in Clarice, but I never got that far. There is a NB romance option in Boyfriend Dungeon. (Note - there is a lot of controversy around Boyfriend Dungeon. Don't take my inclusion as a recc. Read up on the game first, or just ask me since I have played it.)

Anyone know of other shows / games / movies / weekly subscription boxes / books that are new or that you are looking forward to?

The trans content I am currently reading is Never Say You Can't Survive by Charlie Jane Anders. It's a book on writing fiction while the world is falling apart and your identity is being threatened.

I'm not playing Everhood personally but my kid really loves it! He told me that all characters are gender neutral (names are Red, Orange, etc and do not have gendered clothing or pronouns).

You might already be aware of this already but there's been a fair amount of controversy around Boyfriend Dungeon where there is a NPC that actively stalks the player with harassing texts (disclaimer: I haven't played it, I've only read articles/reviews).

I'm not away of any other shows, games, movies at this time but I'll update if I find any!

Oh, I am aware of the Boyfriend Dungeon controversies. I am just glad I got it on Steam and could return it. I don't like the game and think the devs messed up by not delivering on what the Kickstarter backers thought they signed up for. I watched Dev Vlogs before buying and my expectations and what I got were veeeeery different. A lot of the discourse around the game is off the rails and fails to account for what actually happened and why people are upset.

Hrm, maybe I should add 'thoroughly read up on this game before considering' in the main text.

That sounds like an interesting book... I'll need to add it to my infinite list of things I need to read.

I wish I did know of more upcoming canons with trans/nb content... but I can't think of any that I know of. Though tbh I'm generally very firmly out of the loop when it comes to new things coming out. I tend to find out about things months or years after they've come out.

Saaaaame. That's why watching Disclosure on Netflix was so odd to me. Day time talk shows when I was a kid had actual trans people having real discussions? That's the last place I would have looked. Also, as I've posted about before, Disclosure just assumed they didn't need to put in title cards for the clips. Like 'of course everyone is going to what what show we are showing a clip from'. Felt weird, yo

Yeah, John Rogers recced it as a way to stay creative while *gestures to state of the world* is going on and I was like 'this is both relevant to my life in general, and the game I am having'. I'll likely post a review somewhere once I've read it, but I tend to read books like this slowly to let ideas sink in.

It's totally fine, I mostly felt like an ass because I was acting like I got the information for somewhere else! I can totally understand the salt.

Right?? Things like that kind of blow my mind. Not because I think all queer representation or history is recent, because I know that isn't the case, yet...
And ugh, that's frustrating about Disclosure. There's so much stuff like that for me, where it's supposed to be a "cultural touchstone" or something that EVERYONE recognizes as familiar, that I just... don't know, lol.

I think Disclosure took a lot for granted, and assumed their experiences and knowledge were more universal than it is I've asked in a lot of places for canon with trans content and mostly people just want to talk to me about Bone Doll's Twin or Homestuck. Tho, recently more people drink up Star Trek and at least I am getting one reply with actual trans content.

Also, I am aware of the trans character in Lovecraft Country but ... that's a bit of a mess. I have a few long essays on that scene in my drafts, but I'm not going to bring it up when people ask for trans content. If I give no context, people will assume it's a recc. If I give context, that's a big hive of bees I'd be smacking.

It frustrates me that I actually know of SO LITTLE media with canon trans content, and it is hard to get more than the same handful of recs over and over... Doubly frustrating for you, I'm sure, running this comm! So much of what I DO find organically is books, but often just side characters, and I am the worst at remembering to write anything up about them.

I didn't see Lovecraft Country, though it sounded in general a bit hit-or-miss about various things. Yeah... seems like more bees than it's worth swinging at.

Anyway, I always need to double check that canons actually do have canon trans content due to those canons and others getting recced. I can't just buy/watch everything to see. Ikenfell allegedly has trans content, but I am not going to post about it unless I find a review specially talking about that content. Last I checked, I couldn't. Most Tell Me Why reviews don't mention the trans content. I've had people repeatedly recc YTers at me for some reason I couldn't figure out. Turns out they are all trans, but like no one could just say the words 'hey this is a trans creator maybe give them a look?' It's like saying the thing is impossible. I was just baffled as to why so many people thought I wanted to see if things could be waffled or not. Everything that should be a good info source is just so obtuse!

But yeah, I can see that absolutely being a thing. Wanting to/having to do your due diligence requires a lot of legwork. Which might not always be bad, if it's something you're interested in reading/watching/playing/etc. regardless. But when you want a specific type of content, it'd be nice to be able to just... find it, instead of having to follow a vague lead and half a treasure map and a decoder ring to review the whole canon yourself, just to discover... oh, that was a head-canon, or word of god in a reddit AMA that never actually impacts the story.
(That metaphor got away from me, lmao.)

And why do people have such a hard time saying "hey, this creator is trans"? Do people think it's like... rude to mention?
