They/Them is a horror film that takes place at a gay conversation camp, a twist on the classic summer camp setting. One of the campers is trans and non-binary and how the campers are split up by gender is difficult for them.

Hellraiser 2022 - The new Pinhead is played by transwoman Jaymie Clayton.

I personally haven't seen either yet, so I can't give my own commentary on either. I've tried making it through the Hellraiser series for a few reasons, but I was bored by the first film. I'd like to take another stab at it, but we'll see.

Now, you probably know that I tend to hate lists of media with transgender characters or themes because they are usually terrible, but 10 Underrated Transgender Horror Films To Watch After ‘They/Them’ from Dread Central looks like an actually good list. They even specify where being trans is subtext or text. I am going to add Wild Zero and Querent to my to-watch list on Letterboxd.

Thank you for the recs! I had no idea there were that many trans-related horror movies, that's exciting. Of the ones mentioned I've only seen the Hellraiser 2022 remake, which I enjoyed a lot, the new Pinhead and cenobites easily being the highlights of it.

Another I'd recommend is We're All Going to the World's Fair, directed by Jane Schoenbrun, a trans woman. It's more on the quiet, melancholic side than it is on the outright-terrifying, but that's what I liked about it. May Leitz aka NyxFears also makes a brief cameo appearance in it.

I've wanted to see They/Them... but don't have the right platform for it, alas.

I *did* watch the new Hellraiser, and I enjoyed it. I thought Jaymie Clayton was a fantastic Priest. (I haven't seen the original Hellraiser in a minute (a long minute), but I think I enjoyed this one more.)

That link is getting added to my open tabs to read later, haha.

I heard a few comments about They/Them being bland or generic, but the handful of people I actually know who saw it all really liked it! I think it was more just an issue of not a lot of people having the right service - I know exactly 1 person offline who has Peacock, and the one time we tried it via a free trial, every single thing we tried to watch froze within a couple minutes.
I do see on a quick google that it has pretty lousy ratings, but... unfortunately, you never know when something has just been review-bombed, or if it was actually just mediocre. Or both, tbh.
