Discovery has short seasons so we are about halfway through. So far, two of the characters being trans is still Word of God and Non Binary Adira is called 'she'. Their actor has confirmed that Adira is NB and says that Adira hasn't come out with their pronouns yet. Blu del Barrio also confirmed that Adira has always been NB and it's not a result of events we've seen. That was good to hear because being a host to a Trill Symbiont can affect identity.

It turns out that the Trans Man character was dead even before the events of this season.

'Can't kill off a LGBT character if they are already dead!' was my initial reaction.

Grey already being dead is a bit odd. He's basically hanging around as a ghost. Hopefully, he's a ghost because the other explanations aren't great.

Since we don't know how this is all going to play out I don't really have a take on the representation so far. I want to wait and see. But since 2 trans characters on Star Trek is a big deal, I wanted to post about what we've seen so far and see if anyone has thoughts on it. How do you feel about Grey as a ghost?

I didn't get the sense that Gray is a "ghost," per se. In the last episode when Adira is talking to Stamets about Gray, the way that Stamets accepts that Gray is indeed actually sitting there made me think that there might be some way others end up seeing him in the future (or some kind of Trek-like thing happens that causes Gray to be visible and maybe we get more of an explanation of why he is still around).

Because of the nature of some episodes in DS9, for example, where people who were in relationships with Trill characters (or their symbionts) I'm interested in seeing where they take this storyline. I also liked having the queer characters talk with and about other queer characters, which is a big step for Star Trek!
