transmediaclubThe Steamsmith is a poetic series about a black, British, genderqueer steampunk engineer. Published poems are listed on the series page in narrative chronological order.
The main character, Maryam Smith, is female-bodied, uses she/her pronouns, dresses in masculine clothes, and takes a masculine role in society. Some homosexual characters also appear in supporting roles. Themes include gender, sexuality, race, class, and coming of age. The setting is steampunk, leaning science fiction, in that the principles of science work but the answers are mostly different and thus so is the technology.
This series is ongoing. Additions may be requested during any relevant prompt calls, such as the Poetry Fishbowl atysabetwordsmith or the crowdfunding Creative Jam.
