One thing I've noticed is that the friction in groups has shifted over time. Now it's less often about namecalling and more often using the rules to attack people or censoring less popular perspectives. Given the community's theme, cultivating an atmosphere that is both positive and welcoming may prove extra challenging, but it can be done.
Master posts that may appeal: * List of famous works by transfolk (not necessarily about transidentities) * List of famous works about transidentities and people (not necessarily by people who are themselves trans) * Lists of less famous or newer works * List of infamously bad works about transidentities, for the convenience of readers who may be researching this form of hostility * List of famous transfolk with links to their material if available * List of publishers, producers, etc. who turn out trans-relevant material often * Links to posts about how to portray trans characters, preferably offering different perspectives * Links to other communities that may appeal to members * Glossary of terms for sex, gender, identity, etc. that are or have been used in trans communities
As this type of post is a lot of work to make, I suggest spreading them out over time to encourage readers to keep coming back. You could also spread them out to different volunteers.
If the lists of works get too big, you can subdivide them into any relevant categories, for instance adding speculative fiction or biographies or whatever else you get a lot of.
Possible tags or interests: activism admin art biology call for prompts characterization coming out crowdfunding entertainment essay event fail fiction gender studies music new release news nonfiction poetry politics reading review transitioning video writing
I also suggest looking at the popular interests and tags used by other communities.
Much of this will depend on what you want to feature. If you want ALL THE THINGS made by/about transfolk, you'll need a lot more categories of works than if you mainly want to focus on websites or books. Same with the mix of being transgender or making stuff about transfolk.
Thanks for launching this community. It looks interesting.
Since "enby" is in the interests list it might make sense to add "nonbinary" and "non-binary." "Enby" is not every nonbinary person's favourite umbrella term; it was actually coined to refer to young people specifically, as an equivalent of "boy" or "girl." (Usage drifts of course, but there are those of us who still dislike being called by that word.)
Beyond that I have no useful suggestions, but I'm excited for this community and I like the look of the rules so far!
Same here, I haven't seen enby with an age limit. Boi generally seems to be a young term, though, junior to butch. Another young term is tomboy/boi but that doesn't seem to have an older version.
Once you get outside the binary, though, there is very little representation. Some of this stuff I haven't even seen outside my own writers. Other stuff has slowly emerged elsewhere. But then I'm drawing on a lot more cultures and time periods than most folks, so I have ulterior advantages.
One thing at a time. I need to get momentum going first. DW is a sleepy site and a lot of coms fizzle out fast. There seems to be good interest so far, so hopefully this will get rolling.
I have a question. I have a lot of trans headcanons for media that does not have trans characters and I was thinking of making a post for people to discuss different trans headcanons they may also have. Is that something that works for this comm?
I think a post like that would be very clear in it's intent. Lots of things can be posted here. I just keep seeing most trans book clubs do things like talk about The Bone Doll's Twin like it's a trans novel. Also, most lists of trans games I see are mostly RPGs that let people pick their gender at character creation. I'm just trying to avoid that. I just want a clear line between actual, textual trans characters and all the various canons where people have headcanons, or vibe or whatever. Those things are great to talk about, too, but *gestures at my recent post about finding trans games*
Also, none of those lists of trans games include Guild Wars 2 which has canon trans in the world setting and lets you change gender after character creation. Clearly we need better lists :)

It would be really useful to have something like this database of asexual/aromantic characters to search for trans characters, creators, works, etc.

Maybe we could do a list on nonbinary material.
