Right now there is a clip of David Lynch doing a cameo in Twin Peaks where he says 'Fix your heart or die'. The context of that clip is his character talking about telling off transphobes:

David Duchonvy (of X-Files fame) plays Denise Bryson, a transwoman, on the show, who is defended by Lynch's character. For a more in-depth (and informed, I haven't watched Twin Peaks myself) look at everything Here is a Lily Simpson video on the topic. With that clip/gif suddenly everywhere, I wanted people to know what the context is when they see it. Despite Lily's claim in the video that the quote is ubiquitous in the trans community and at marches and stuff, I can tell you that it's not in my neck of the woods. So, an explainer is good.

He is one of my all-time favorite filmmakers, I was so heartbroken when I read the news. I can't say I didn't see it coming, what with the last update on his health reporting him being permanently housebound from his emphysema, but it's a huge loss all the same. His works meant a lot to me and many of my trans friends.

I hadn't ever heard the quote outside of the context in the show, until I kept hearing that it's a ubiquitous saying in queer spaces... but not in my experience either.

Still an excellent line.

I need to do another Twin Peaks rewatch sometime.

Adoro o trabalho de Lynch, a direção do clipe Wicked Game de Chris Isaak, o comercial da Dior com Marion Cortillard são muito queridos por mim. Mulholland Drive está na minha lista de obras a se ver por conta do seu surrealismo que lembra as obras de Buñuel. Eu fiquei bastante triste com a notícia. Não assisti Twin Peaks mas quase sempre ouço sobre a série e claro a personagem trans de David. Acho que ele ficou muito bonito representando Denise e a cena que ela diz como se tornou a mulher que é naquele momento me lembrou como muitos amigos trans se descobriram. É real.
